Lisa Wilkinson has had an esteemed career in the media. You may know Lisa as the editor of Dolly when she became the youngest editor ever of a national women's magazine as editor of Dolly at the tender age of just 21. Over the next four years, Lisa went on to almost triple the magazine's circulation.
Then again, you may know Lisa for her ten very successful, and record-breaking years as the editor of Cleo - and yes, she is the one who got rid of the centrefold. But she is also the one who started the even-more-successful list of Australia's 50 Most Eligible Bachelors, so please don't be too hard on her!
These days, Lisa is Editor At Large of the country's biggest selling magazine, The Australian Women's Weekly.
Having got her break in magazines so young, Lisa has always believed in giving back to the industry that has taken her to such great heights and, as a result, there are now 17 magazine editors both here and overseas who have been trained and mentored under Lisa's watchful eye. These include Mia Freedman (Cosmopolitan), Deborah Thomas (Australian Women's Weekly), Paula Joye (Cleo) and Andrea Jones (Home Beautiful), to name just a few.
Further proving her uncanny ability for spotting great talent, Nicole Kidman, Megan Gale, and Kate Fisher all have Lisa to thank for giving them their first big break in front of the camera, and thereby launching them on the road to superstardom.
Then again, you may also know Lisa from her appearances on television: as host of Channel Seven's The Morning Shift during the Sydney Olympic year; as a long-time panellist on Channel Ten' Beauty & The Beast; or now, for her regular Tuesday appearances on Australia's top-rating breakfast show, Sunrise.
Lisa is married to author, journalist, TV presenter and former Wallaby, Peter FitzSimons, and they have three children together. |
