Doug Walter’s popularity as one of Australia’s
cricketing legends has continued long after his
retirement from first class cricket. Throughout
his career, Doug scored 5,357 Test runs. His
highest score was 250 against New Zealand in
1977. He was awarded an MBE for his services
to cricket in 1975 and in 2000, he was awarded
an Australian Sports Medal, also in recognition
for his services to cricket.
Today, Doug is till very much involved in cricket.
He participates in many social and charity matches
and conducts coaching clinics for youngsters.
Off the field, Doug was renowned for his humour
and love of practical jokes. Doug is a modest man,
with an interesting story to tell, even
to a non-cricketer. |
