Darryl Lovegrove

Darryl Lovegrove moved to Australia when he was cast in the original Australian Productions of Les Miserables and Chess. In 1989 he won The Australian Singing Competition and has worked consistently on both sides of the Tasman ever since.

In 1994, Australian producer Harry M. Miller cast him in the coveted lead role of Jesus for the Australian and New Zealand tours of Jesus Christ Superstar for which he won New Zealand’s Entertainer of the Year “Rising Star” award and received an Australian “MO Award” nomination.

In 1995 he performed in Kander and Ebb’s The World Goes Round at the Sydney Opera House and featured in the Australasian tour of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber with Sarah Brightman. Dramatic roles include David Williamson’s Sanctuary for Fortune Theatre, Dunedin; An Unfinished Song for Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre and he originated the lead roles in both Crusade - The Concert in Melbourne and the Dunedin and Christchurch seasons of the New Zealand musical Rush!

In 2000, Darryl played to sold-out houses in New Zealand as John Lennon in Looking Through a Glass Onion – an evening with John Lennon in words and music. Television appearances include Hey Hey it’s Saturday, Good Morning Australia, The Midday Show and New Zealand’s Good Morning Show.

In 1998 Darryl formed Mardar Entertainment with business partner Mark Bradley and created arguably the most successful operatic act in Corporate Entertainment entitled The Three Waiters! Having performed over 8,000 shows in over 71 countries, The Three Waiters has won the prestigious American “Entertainer of the Year” Spotlight Award in both 2002 and 2006 in addition to the “Best Performing Arts Award”in 2006. In 2003 they received a standing ovation from none other than The Three Tenors themselves at a dinner held in their honour in Bath, England. The company has offices in Sydney, London’s West End and The Empire State Building, New York and has also created other smash hit Corporate Acts The Leading Men, String Angels, Tenors Undercover and Hypnotwist!

He recently starred opposite Glenn Shorrock and Doug Parkinson in the Australian and New Zealand tours of Let it be – the songs of Lennon and McCartney.

In May 2009 Darryl sold his financial interest in Mardar Entertainment and handed over the management of ‘The Three Waiters’ to its new Directors. He has now formed Lovegrove Productions which exclusively manages ‘The Leading Men’.
